OPEN CALL FOR AN EXHIBITION IN MANHATTAN
Deadline: 06 September 2009
The show will be based on artists interpreting the theme 'Urban Legends'. The images, modern myths and stories, viral morality and horror tales that have come to own the meaning of the term, are part of the defining experience of modern life. Works submitted for the exhibition are free to define the term and interpret it in a manner that can vary from playful, to literal, apocryphal, or symbolic. The plan is that 20 winning pieces will be placed on signs and displayed publicly on the streets of Manhattan New York.The pieces will be also be displayed in a gallery in Manhattan for the length of the show.
The two-dimensional pieces can be in any artistic media but should be printed on vinyl or painted on canvas. There is a small entry fee and free membership to cultureinside, a artist run and based networking site.
The organization is seeking artists to submit works on this theme and to submit any two-dimensional artworks to the contests. The show will take place from October 10 - November 1, 2009 in streets of Manhattan, NYV.

IV PAINTING COMPETITION - SPAIN

Artists of any nationality can participate to this painting competition. The technique and the theme will be of free choice. The works will have to be of dimensions not inferior to 65 cms., neither superior to 130 cms., in any side. Every author can introduce a maximum of 2 works. An exhibition will be organized with a selection of the works of art introduced to the contest. The exhibition will take place in a town of Spain in the days from the 30 of October to the 11 of November 2009.
It is offered only one prize of 3.000 Euro and commemorative plate. The winning work will pass to belong to the cultural patrimony of the organization. The delivery of the prize will coincide with the opening of the exhibition. NEW MEDIA AWARD – BELGIUM
Deadline: 01 Novembre 2009
This international competition is open to all age groups and to all nationalities. At the occasion of the Update III exhibition that is organised as a Biennial event from March to June 2010 at the Zebrastraat Gent, the organizing Foundation will award for the second time, a work by a living artist distinguishing himself or herself in the field of digital art. This award will consist of Euro 5000 euro and a showcase in the Update IV to be held in 2012. The upcoming exhibition, Update III (in 2010), will be held in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in Paris, under the artistic direction of the exhibition's commissioner Christine Van Assche. At the same time, the 10 works selected for the award will be exhibited and integrated into the publication accompanying the exhibition.
Update's mission is to expand the scope of contemporary artistic creations and traditional media with works dedicated to employing contemporary and new technologies in an original and intelligent way: treatment of sounds and light, use of new media, application of innovative evolutions in communications, telecommunications and broadcasting, centred on the world of information, communication, and computers and interaction.

VII PAINTING PRIZE - SPAIN

A Municipality in Spain, announces the VII Painting Prize.
Artists of any nationality, without limit of age, can participate in this prize, with an original work for author that has not been winning in any other contest or competition.
The technique and the theme will be of free choice with measures non inferior to 97 cms., neither superior to 162 cms., in any side.
The exhibition of the selected works will take place from the 1 to the 31 of October 2009.
They are offered a first prize of Euro 4.000, a second prize of Euro of 3.000 and 2 mentions of recognition.
The works winning the 1º and 2º Prize will remain property of the organization.

V PAINTING PRIZE - SPAIN

For this XV Painting Prize, every author can introduce a maximum of two works, whose dimensions won't be inferior to 100 cm. neither superior to 180 cm. for every side. It will be offered a first prize of Euro 6.000 that will be indivisible and can be declared desert. The winning work will remain exclusive ownership of the organizing municipality, which, as owner, can reproduce it in whatever type of support or technique, photography, engraving, lithographies, etc..
The jury can decide for the acquisition of more works, that will be paid on the base of the economic evaluation furnished by the author. The introduced works will have to be unique and original and they must not have been awarded in any other contest. The theme and the technique will be completely free. Works protected by glass or realized with material whose transport represents a risk for the integrity of the work won’t be admitted.

ILLUSTRATORS AWARD – GERMANY
Deadline: 30 of September 2009
The Award is a unique competition awarding creativity and innovation in personal contemporary illustration and graphics. The award encourages and supports designers in their artistic practice and offers an international and worldwide recognized platform to them. Illustrative art works, art projects with graphic influences, animations and book art objects qualify for submission.
The nominees of the Award will be invited to Berlin and get the opportunity to exhibit their work at Illustrative 2009 in Berlin. The winners await prizes worth 6.000 Euros as well as publications and illustration agency contracts and will also be featured in future international shows. One winner will be invited to design a Swatch Watch – a great opportunity to join the ranks of artists such as Kiki Picasso, Pedro Almodóvar, Robert Altman and Keith Haring.
Eligible applicants are illustrators, visual artists, graphic designers, animators, book artists, as well as students and apprentices. The minimum age is 21 years. A maximum age doesn’t exist, despite the name of the competition. The nominees will be awarded by an international jury consisting of leading art directors, experts and editors of graphic and design magazines.
The call for the Award opens in June and continues till the end of September 2009. An international jury decides in October about each of the category’s winners.
Within the Illustrative festival in autumn 2009, the Golden Awards and further prizes will be awarded in a festive ceremony. A selection of works awarded by the Award will be presented at future Illustrative festivals.

This juried art competition and exhibition was initially conceived to recognize, promote and reward excellence in representational floral art, and to enhance public appreciation and awareness. cash awards including $25,000 Best of Show Award plus. $40,000 in cash and other awards to be announced. Artworks selected by an eminently-qualified jury will be featured in the premiere exhibition in Houston, Texas. All the exhibited art works will be on sale. The competition is open to any living artist. Works must be original, completed after September 1, 2008, and must not have won any previous prize or award in any other competition. Jurors will select exceptional artworks that depict and interpret floral subjects in a variety of environments. Original, two-dimensional art only. Excluded are: computer enhanced or generated artwork, sculpture, reproduction prints, photography, video, and any other

XXX PAINTING PRIZE - SPAIN
